Do you know what you want in life?

There are two kinds of people in the world – people who know what they want from life and people who don’t. Which category you belong to?

I have read somewhere that people who don’t have goals work for people who do. Therefore, it’s quite important to have your goals set.

What kind of life do you want to live?

What kind of career do you want to enjoy?

What kind of financial status do you would like to acquire?

What contribution would you like to make to the world?

These are some questions you must ask yourself. Being clear about these questions will help you decide the things important for you – things that make you happy and give you a sense of purpose.

If you don’t know where you want to go in life, then you are like a dry leaf on the mercy of the wind. It doesn’t have any choice but to go where the wind takes it.

If you want your power back, take control of your life. Be clear about the direction you want your life to move into.

I find a lot of people complaining about the way their life is. I feel like they should stop complaining right now, because today, the way their life is not something that they have chosen consciously. It’s something that has happened to them.

If you didn’t ask your life to take you in a specific direction, then whatever is available to you is a gift.

You should be grateful for it. And if you are not happy with the way your life is, then, probably, you need some goals.

I love to call it ‘Defining your priorities.’

Every person has a natural inclination for something or the other. There are things you do because you have to do in order to support yourself financially and to feed yourself and your family. Then, there are things you love to do. There’s lot of difference between have to do and love to do.

The things you love to do make you feel alive. Life becomes meaningful.

In order to find out what you really love, you need to differentiate between the things you ‘love to do’ and things you ‘have to do.’

Here’s how.

Take a pen and paper. Start listing down the things that are really important to you. At this time, don’t judge the ideas coming to your mind. Write down every single idea. Even if some of the ideas seem strange, don’t skip them. Keep writing. Keep asking yourself what is important to you. And when you feel completely satisfied about it, take a small break of 15 to 20 minutes.

Go for a walk.

Play with your kids.

Stare aimlessly into the sky.

Indulge in something that can give your mind rest.

When you feel refreshed enough, go back to your list.

Now, start contemplating over the ideas you listed down. Try to find out the 5-7 ideas that are really important to you. (The things that you love to do.)

Keep eliminating ideas that don’t resonate with you. Keep working till you reach between 5-7 ideas. There will be some ideas that will come under ‘I have to do’ category. Don’t worry! It’s ok to have one or two such ideas.

Your list is ready. These ideas are your priorities. These are the things that really matter to you.

Now, write down these priorities on notes provided below.

Keep this paper in a place where you can see it often. Sticking it inside your wardrobe or on the refrigerator could be a good idea. The more often you’ll see them, and work upon them, the more focused and successful you will be.
